You have choices for your earwires, depending on your personal preference on mixing metals when one wears the gold-based earrings with the silver-based butterfly. I personally use the black niobium.
FAQ: Can I make an almost-born version of these earrings?
No, I'm afraid the nature of layering glass makes it impossible for me to make such lightweight earrings in the other version.
They said it would never happen: Jude Rose offering chrysalis earrings to the masses. Well, they had a point. I know they're smaller, but I promise, that doesn't translate to easier! But over the years I've gotten my technique down, so here's your chance. They do take me a little more time to ship out, about 6-7 days.
I've been studying the Monarch chrysalis for over 10 years. It's been an awe-inspiring challenge to try to recreate what nature does so beautifully. I make each glass chrysalis one at a time in the flame of a torch, adding pure 24k gold while it's still semi-molten. All pieces are kiln annealed for durability and hung on 14k gold-filled earwires. As you can see in the picture with the model, they are not actual size. (The model is me BTW. I'm very inexpensive to hire) They are solid glass and this size is a great balance between catching the idea of chrysalis while still being properly light earrings.

Each chrysalis earirngs measures about 3/4". They are adorable and hardly weigh a thing.

Glass in this form is surprisingly durable. Occasional drops onto wooden or vinyl flooring will most likely turn out fine. A drop on concrete may not bode well.
Do not wash in washing machine.
24k gold doesn't easily tarnish. The gold can be buffed with a jewelry cloth if desired.
