If you ever want to run down a wonderful wormhole, go ahead and do what I did: Research the wild flowers of our native lands of the United States. This project was a joy. There are so many more flowers that still deserve representation!

Obviously they originated from Virginia even if they've adapted to your own backyard in a different state. Native plants have evolved alongside our insects, creating a symbiotic relationship. They bloom and provide nutrition to our pollinators at exactly the right time. More native plants means more strength and endurance for our ecosystems. 

The plants listed in this California design are: 

Prairie clover, wooly sage, fivespot, desert aster, white milkweed, showy milkweed, California lilac, California bluebell,  California poppies, Mathilda poppy, tortoiseshell butterfly, bee fly, mariposa poppy in the main and another mariposa poppy on the side for the extra space I had on the mugs.
